50th & France
Edina’s downtown, with shops and restaurants. The Edina Art Fair fills the streets the first weekend in June, and the community tree lighting is the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Centennial Lakes Park
In the heart of the Southdale area: paddleboats, putting courses and free outdoor concerts in summer. In winter the ponds become 10 acres of skating ice.
Fourth of July
An hour-long parade down West 50th Street every July 4 morning, then an evening concert and fireworks at Rosland Park.

Getting around
Highways 62 and 100 divide Edina into four sections, and Highway 169 and I-494 also serve the city. The METRO E Line, which opened in December 2025, runs along France Avenue from the Southdale area past 50th & France to Uptown, downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, every 10 to 15 minutes. Downtown Minneapolis is about 10 miles away and MSP Airport about 6 miles.
Parks and trails
More than 40 parks and 1,500 acres of open space. Bredesen Park has 206 acres of walking and biking trails, with a nature trail through the middle. The 15.3-mile Nine Mile Creek Regional Trail runs through Edina, with more than a mile of boardwalk. Van Valkenburg Park has an off-leash dog area (city license and permit required).
Through the year
The Edina Art Fair at 50th & France the first weekend in June, and the Fourth of July parade and fireworks every July. A farmers market on Thursday afternoons, June to early October, at Centennial Lakes Park (7499 France Avenue South). The Edina Library is at 5280 Grandview Square. Southdale Library is closed for renovation, with holds pickup at 3519 Hazelton Road.
School districts
Three districts serve Edina: Edina Public Schools, Hopkins Public Schools and Richfield Public Schools. Boundaries go by address, so check any home with the district before you write an offer. We’ll do it with you.

Water and sewer
The city bills water, sewer, storm drainage, recycling and organics every quarter. Buyers and sellers fill out the city’s start or stop service form two weeks before closing, or call Utility Billing at 952-826-0373. Accounts stay in the owner’s name. The city takes a final reading when a home sells and mails a closing bill to the seller.
Trash and recycling
You pick your own garbage hauler from the city’s licensed list. Republic Services picks up recycling every other week on your garbage day (blue or gray week, by address), and Vierkant Disposal picks up curbside organics weekly for single-family homes. Both are on the city utility bill. Yard waste goes through your hauler or a drop-off site.
Electric, gas and internet
Electric is Xcel Energy and gas is CenterPoint Energy. Internet options vary by address, so check availability for the specific home.
Winter parking
No parking on city streets or alleys after 1.5 inches or more of snow until the street is plowed to the curb, and no street parking from 1 to 6 a.m., November 1 to March 31. Sidewalks next to your property need to be cleared within 48 hours of a winter storm.
Pets
Dogs over 6 months old need a city license, sold at City Hall with a current rabies vaccination receipt. Cats don’t need a license, but dogs and cats over 6 months need rabies shots. The limit is three dogs or cats per home.
New to Minnesota
You have 60 days after becoming a resident to get a Minnesota driver’s license and register your vehicles.

Check early
Open permits, unpermitted work and HOA rules are easier to sort out before you list than in the middle of a sale.
Special assessments
If the city has levied a special assessment, such as for street reconstruction, buyer and seller usually negotiate paying it off as part of the price.
Utility balance
Send the city’s stop service form two weeks before closing. An unpaid water bill is a lien on the property, so the title company confirms the final balance before closing.
Rental homes
Any home that isn’t owner-occupied needs an annual city rental license from Edina Public Health.
