Getting around
Highway 100 and Highway 55 run through the city, I-394 runs along the south edge and Highway 169 along the west side. Downtown Minneapolis is just to the east. Metro Transit buses serve the city; check Metro Transit for current routes and park-and-ride.
Parks and trails
More than 1,035 acres of parks and open space, about 15 percent of the city, and nearly 50 miles of trails. The Luce Line Regional Trail runs through Golden Valley to Wirth Park, and the Bassett Creek Regional Trail connects to French Regional Park in Plymouth.
Through the year
The Golden Valley Festival every September under the water tower, and Golden Valley Pride at Brookview Park every June. Market in the Valley on Sunday mornings in summer. The Golden Valley Library is at 830 Winnetka Avenue North.
School districts
Golden Valley is split between Robbinsdale Area Schools and Hopkins Public Schools. Boundaries go by address, so check any home with the district before you write an offer. We’ll do it with you.

Water and sewer
The city bills water, sewer, storm drainage, street lights, recycling and organics quarterly. New residents call Utility Billing at 763-593-8016 to set up an account. When you sell, call between four weeks and two days before closing to schedule a final meter reading.
Trash and recycling
You pick your own garbage hauler from the city’s licensed list. Republic Services picks up recycling every other week and organics every Friday, both billed on the city utility bill.
Electric, gas and internet
Electric is Xcel Energy and gas is CenterPoint Energy. Internet options vary by address, so check availability for the specific home.
Winter parking
No parking on city streets after 2 inches or more of snow until the street is plowed to the curb, and no street or alley parking from 2 to 6 a.m., November 1 to March 31. Minneapolis snow emergencies don’t apply in Golden Valley.
Pets
Golden Valley doesn’t require a dog license, but dogs need a rabies vaccination and the rabies tag on their collar.
New to Minnesota
You have 60 days after becoming a resident to get a Minnesota driver’s license and register your vehicles.

What sellers need to know.
Golden Valley requires a Certificate of Inflow and Infiltration (I/I) Compliance, a sewer inspection, before a home can be sold. Start it before you list.
What’s my Golden Valley home worth?The inspection
If the home doesn’t already have a certificate, the seller orders the inspection before the home is advertised for sale. The city’s residential inspection fee is $250. Call the city at 763-593-3962 first to check whether the home already has one.
Repairs
Repairs should be done and the certificate issued before closing. If they can’t be, an escrow is required, and repairs are due within 180 days of the first inspection.
Older certificates
If the home’s certificate is more than a year old, the city requires a sump pump inspection before the sale.
