Bassett Creek Park
Crystal’s largest park at 85 acres, with a disc golf course and an off-leash dog park that has separate fenced areas for large and small dogs.
Crystal Frolics
The city’s summer festival every July at Welcome Park, with a softball tournament, bingo, a 5K and Saturday-night fireworks. 2027 marks its 75th year.
Becker Park
A 12.2-acre park near Bass Lake Road and Bottineau Boulevard, rebuilt in 2020 as a community gathering place with a large inclusive play area at its center.

Getting around
Bottineau Boulevard (County Road 81) runs through Crystal and connects to Highway 100. The METRO Blue Line Extension is planned down the middle of Bottineau Boulevard, with a Bass Lake Road station and park-and-ride, and early construction is planned to start in 2027. Metro Transit buses serve the city; check Metro Transit for current routes. Crystal Airport, a small general aviation airport run by the Metropolitan Airports Commission, sits where Crystal meets Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center.
Parks and trails
26 city parks and more than 263 acres of parks and open space. Bassett Creek Park is the largest at 85 acres. The paved Bassett Creek Regional Trail runs about 7 miles through Crystal, linking French Regional Park in Plymouth with Theodore Wirth Regional Park in Minneapolis. Crystal Cove Aquatic Center (4848 Douglas Drive North) is the city pool, open in summer.
Through the year
Crystal Frolics every July at Welcome Park (5598 46th Avenue North). A farmers market on Tuesday afternoons, June to September, at the Crystal Community Center (4800 Douglas Drive North). Rockford Road Library is at 6401 42nd Avenue North.
School districts
Crystal is served by Robbinsdale Area Schools (ISD 281). Boundaries go by address, so check any home with the district before you write an offer. We’ll do it with you.

Water and sewer
The city bills water, sewer, storm drainage, street lights and recycling (including organics) quarterly. Once you have a closing date, send the city’s Transfer of Services Form, or call Utility Billing at 763-531-1120. Sellers contact Utility Billing to arrange a final bill.
Trash and recycling
You pick your own garbage hauler from the city’s licensed list. Hennepin Recycling Group picks up recycling every other week on your garbage day. Weekly organics pickup is by sign-up with Hennepin Recycling Group, though every household pays the organics fee on the utility bill.
Electric, gas and internet
Electric is Xcel Energy and gas is CenterPoint Energy. Xfinity and CenturyLink serve the city. Check availability for the specific home.
Winter parking
No parking on city streets or alleys after 1½ inches of snow until the street is plowed edge to edge, and no street parking from 2 to 5 a.m. all year.
Pets
Crystal doesn’t license dogs or cats, but dogs, cats and ferrets need a current rabies vaccination. Without a multiple animal license, the limit is three dogs or three cats, and no more than four dogs and cats combined.
New to Minnesota
You have 60 days after becoming a resident to get a Minnesota driver’s license and register your vehicles.
City news

What sellers need to know.
Crystal ended its point-of-sale inspection in 2015, so sellers no longer need a city inspection before they sell.

Sump pumps
There’s no sewer inspection at sale, but city code bans draining sump pumps, footing drains or roof drains into the sanitary sewer, and the city can inspect for it. Homes that aren’t in compliance pay a surcharge on the utility bill.
Rental homes
Any home not lived in by its owner needs a city rental license, with a yearly inspection. Licenses don’t transfer: the seller tells the city within five business days (763-531-1143), and a buyer who plans to rent it out applies for their own.
Check early
Open permits, unpermitted work and special assessments are easier to sort out before you list. Send the Transfer of Services Form once the closing date is set.
