Panoway on Wayzata Bay
The rebuilt downtown lakefront along Lake Street. A 1,200-foot Lakewalk boardwalk, finished in 2024, runs from Broadway Avenue to the 1906 Wayzata Depot, with lakeside seating and community docks.
Wayzata Beach
A sandy public beach on Lake Minnetonka at 220 Grove Lane East, open mid-June to mid-August, with a swimming dock, a playground and watersports rentals. There’s no lifeguard.
James J. Hill Days
A community celebration held on Lake Street the weekend after Labor Day since 1975, with a street market, a carnival, a parade and dachshund races.

Getting around
Highway 12 runs along the north side of Wayzata and connects to I-394 toward downtown Minneapolis. County Road 101 (Central Avenue) runs north and south through town. Metro Transit Route 645 runs between downtown Minneapolis and the Wayzata Park & Ride by way of Ridgedale, and some trips continue to Mound. Check Metro Transit for current schedules.
Parks and trails
Wayzata Beach and Marina, the Lakewalk and the Depot on Wayzata Bay, plus smaller parks like Bell Courts Park and Big Woods Preserve. The paved Dakota Rail Regional Trail runs west from Wayzata along Lake Minnetonka, with parking at 175 Grove Lane, and it’s plowed through Wayzata in winter. The Luce Line State Trail runs along the north edge of town. City boat slips are for Wayzata residents only, assigned by lottery each March.
Through the year
James J. Hill Days every September, the weekend after Labor Day, on Lake Street. The Wayzata Historical Society’s railroad museum in the Depot (402 Lake Street East) is open weekend afternoons from April to New Year’s Day, and the Depot lawn hosts summer concerts. The Wayzata Library is at 620 Rice Street.

Wayzata is served by Wayzata Public Schools. Boundaries go by address, so check any home with the district before you write an offer. We’ll do it with you.

Water and sewer
The city bills water and sewer monthly, with sewer based on water use. Garbage, recycling and organics are on the same bill. To start service, call Public Works at 952-404-5363 with your name, address and move-in date.
Trash and recycling
Republic Services picks up garbage and recycling citywide on Mondays, billed on the city utility bill. Every-other-week garbage pickup is an option. For organics, sign up with Republic Services for Green Bag Organics bags, which go inside your garbage cart.
Electric, gas and internet
Electric is Xcel Energy and gas is CenterPoint Energy. Internet options vary by address, so check availability for the specific home.
Winter parking
After 2 inches or more of snow, no parking on any city street starting at 2 a.m. until the street is plowed to the curb. Sign up for snow emergency alerts through Notify Me, or call 952-404-5369 after 8 p.m. to check. The city asks residents not to push snow into the street.
Pets
Dogs over 6 months old need a city license. In 2026 it’s $31 for one year or $47 for two years for one dog, with a current rabies certificate. Apply at the Wayzata Police Department.
New to Minnesota
You have 60 days after becoming a resident to get a Minnesota driver’s license and register your vehicles. The city’s Motor Vehicle Office at 600 Rice Street East handles tab renewals and title transfers.

Renting out a home in Wayzata takes a city rental license and a city inspection, and licenses don’t transfer. A buyer who plans to rent it out applies for their own.
Check early
Open permits, unpermitted work, HOA rules and special assessments are easier to sort out before you list than in the middle of a sale.
